Eudaimonia

Being a work in progress, your feedback will be welcome at realiniionescu@hotmail.com, or on Facebook- Realini Barzoi Ionescu

this is a temporary name for a project which should boost people's happiness level and the GDP of their country with that:

what is the connection?

modern science, psychology have proved that happy, positive people are more productive and not only that, but they get sick less often and when they do, they stay so for fewer days, saving their Health System money in the process.
And there are plenty more benefits: happy people live longer, their optimism is catching, therefore people arround them will feel better too.

there are many reasons why political leaders, mass media and even large and small companies should get involved in this.

We can increase the level of well being of the population and that will have a positive impact on productivity at work, fewer visits to the doctor, savings for the NHS, etc

Many of the ways to increase the level of happiness are simple, efficient, proven and tested.
there is a question of popularising them through the mass media, which in some states- Romania- is both private and state financed. Following a public debate, the National Public TV station, could air programs that will be dedicated to this "public good", improving the National Happiness Level.

It is even more important in places where the public spirit is on the low side, where trust in the future, levels of confidence in a better economical, political outcome are depressingly low, to act to paint a brighter picture, to create a better public mood and Positive Perspective.

Measures and packages of laws to promote this Project Eudaimonia would help. For instance, encouraging people to use the bycicles. I use mine and I know how dangerous it can be. There has been a famous "parade" of 5,000 cyclists, but not much has happened since. If more people would be encouraged to take this healthy exercise, pollution will decrease and there will be a dramatic increase in the well being level due to the positive effect of exercise on the human brain. i will not go into the details of the chemestry, the endorphines and other substances inolved, but a list of the books and sources will be provided.

reference can be made at this point to the Harard Positive Psychology lectures availaable on youtube, together with speeches, talks by Martin Seligman, Daniel Gilbert and others.

Some of the ways to improve levels of happiness are "easy to use" and range from smile and go to use humor, through avoiding isolation, being grateful for what you have- a small exercise has been proven to boost your happiness level: writing eceryday 5 things, people, events for which you are grateful that happened, you met them that day-

oing good is one of the most " selfish" acts: if you do good, help others you will feel better and this is again demonstrated by modern science.

giving people more control over their lives is crucial: tests have been made in Switzerland, where people who had a greater control over their lives wre more satisfied- control was exercised through referendums over the way their tax money were being spend and finally over their lives. the source for this is The Science of Happiness (Formula Fericirii la Humanitas) by Stefan Klein

notes: few lists will be provided with measures to improve happiness. I have posted Reviews on Goodreads
and will get what is necessary from there
